Meet Phyliss Dobbs... Artist & Licensing Savant

As an artist, I create art for licensing on products
in the textile, gift and home goods industry.
In textiles, I have designed fabric collections for 7 years.
I also focus on designing quilt and sewing patterns and
have written a new built book “Asymmetrical Quilts”.

How did you finally decide on the look of your brand?
What did the evolution look like?
My brand came naturally for me. First, I am pretty much obsessed with color so in everything I do, vibrant color is key.  And I naturally gravitate toward whimsy. I’ve tried doing more traditional, but when I draw, paint and design, the whimsy comes out.
The combination of color and whimsy have defined my brand. I’ve had so many people
tell me that my art makes them smile. That’s a comment that makes me smile and happy with what I do.

Phyllis is currently working on new art for licensing including a new fabric line
as well as adding more art to products for her Zazzle store. She also just entered
into a collaboration with another quilt designer for a quilt related project.

Meet Paula Joerling... Illustrator & Collage Artist

Paula Joerling
I am a freelance illustrator living in Atlanta Georgia.
My designs are primarily used for the gift and tabletop industry.
Typically, I work in watercolor and collage and enjoy incorporating fabric,
stitched paper and found objects in my art.

How did you finally decide on the look of your brand?
What did the evolution look like?

That was a difficult thing to do. I started by looking lots of blogs and websites to see what other people had done. After determining what I liked about their brand, I took the time  to understand what it said about them and how it related to their work. Next I selected some of my favorite images based on what I wanted to say about the work that I did. That was tricky because I like doing a lot of different things and I needed them to all make sense together. The next step was to show it to a couple of different friends (both artists and non-artists) and get feedback.

dani keith
 {dani keith designs}

maker of pretty things. grower of dreams. catalyst for creativity.
dani keith has been creating for a lifetime. in the spring of 2010 she was set up
on a blind date with metalsmithing, and she says
it was instant, true and deep love at first fusing!
{dk} is constantly evolving, and dani is genuinely excited
to see where each turn takes her.

artist statement: "I find the beauty in the simple geometry of shape and transform metal into a story that the wearer wants to be apart of"

How did you finally decide on the look of your brand?
What did the evolution look like?
My work is very personal, my jewelry is an expression of my joy and as a creative your work is always very closely tied to who you are…that notion speaks directly to my branding… as a designer my product is always evolving, the ring I make today
is nothing like what I will make in a month and I always like to offer original work
to my clients… so my name is the continuity to my craft, and that is the evolution of
the {dani keith designs} brand.

Meet Robin Norgren... creator of the 101010 Project (and all around amazing chick)

Robin Norgren

I strive to live life to the fullest.  No matter what.
I have grown into myself through my love for Jesus and HIS LOVE FOR ME.
Art, motherhood, business, creativity and yoga are
the cherished vehicles for this deepening.
Life can be FULL, JUICY, MEANINGFUL, PURPOSE FILLED, LOVELY.
I want to help you come to your fullest life.
I create workbooks, ecourses and workshops that chronicle
my change and growth and offer you ways
to find out what YOUR FULLEST life will be.

How did you finally decide on the look of your brand?  What did the evolution look like?

I have been through quite an evolution with the colors that represent my business. I have always been into funkier colors: goldenrods and burnt siennas. But received my heart started to move toward the other end of the spectrum: clean lines with classic gray and a pop of pink.  I am not really sure if the colors changed first or my take on business did.  Both in both places I went through a huge transformation.

After almost three years of what I call the hustle where I felt like I kept my prices too low and had a beggar's mentality about the whole business, my heart said, "you are done with this." And I really began to ask myself: what do I really want? And what would it look like?

In 2012 I decided to integrate what I feel like my calling is: to work with people asking questions and offering the ear and the heart needed to witness as they come into their power.  Pink is a sign of femininity. Gray is a sign of strength.  Together they feel like grace.

Meet Shari Sherman... of Hula Dog Designs

Shari Sherman

I make Happy Art for Happy People!
I love that thrill of getting an idea and making it come to life.
I love bright colors (especially turquoise!), strong simple lines, and adding words
of inspiration to my art.
I like mixed-media because it is limitless, but painting will always be my first love.
My subject matter frequently includes dogs, books, and anything related to
the ocean/beach, because that is what I LOVE.
People often smile when they see my art, and I feel like I am doing my part
in making the world a happier place!

How did you finally decide on the look of your brand?
What did the evolution look like?

My brand is still a work in progress. I am from Hawaii and I live in Florida and love the beach, so that is how I arrived at my island style!  I am working on a logo for Hula Dog Designs. I think branding should reflect both your personality and your business, and I want to create a brand that says whimsical, fun and relaxed...what is more fun than a dog in a hula skirt?

Shari is currently working on a book project called, The Inklings.  For more information on this and other fun stuff, like her page, Hula Dog Designs on Facebook or check out her blog, Dashboard Hula.

Meet Stephanie Guimond...Artist, visionary, avid left-brainer

Stephanie Guimond

I'm Stephanie Guimond, artist, visionary and avid left-brainer
I paint, I dream big and I love spreadsheets.
In 2008 I picked up a paint brush for the first time since kindergarten
and haven't put it down since. My art, like myself, varies in style and personality
from the vintage girly to the unexplainable abstract.
The most common theme is visibly the feminine, but I'm always exploring...
Working with materials like acrylics, paper, pastels and ink, I'm drawn to
an intuitive and fluid approach to painting where images appear organically
before being polished into a finished product.
Because of this intuitive nature, pieces are heavily influenced by what I'm living the week, the day or the moment they are created. They reflect a personal story
that in an odd way infuses them with a universal quality.
I share my home with hubby and Cassie, our Golden Retriever.
I left my 9-5 job last fall to try something different, and spend most of my days
working in my guest bedroom turned office/studio creating art
and other paid work that supports the life I want to create overall.
I am grateful for the opportunity.

How did you finally decide on the look of your brand?
What did the evolution look like?

I don't have a firm or final look for my brand yet. With each evolution of my blog/Website I play around with the look & feel to reach something that feels right and captures what I want to project: a look that's grounded and vibrant where the left and right sides of the brain meet. I do like what I have now look-wise (with a few tweaks). I'm in the process of creating a new Website and tried switching it up with something different; though visually I loved the end result it just didn't feel right so I'll continue with the look I have now at the new URL and see how that sits.

In addition to visual aspects of branding I've been paying attention to the voice I use across social platforms and in person when representing my business, as well as the consistency of my message. My first blog was purely narrative and used to document a key personal transition with no intent to drum up business. Though I still include some personal narrative, today I use my blog to support my business vision and that's narrowed the focus of my writings considerably.

Current projects: a new Website, growing my business with a new left-brain offering called Get Clear, Get Moving (coming soon!),learning to balance it all in my own way

Meet Laura Otero... Marketing Professional & more...

Laura is a marketing professional, graphic designer, writer
and lover of all things creative living her best life in Charleston, SC.
On most days, you will find Laura sharing her artful adventures
as well as helpful online tutorials, app reviews and design bits
of goodness on her MarketingWithLaura.com blog.

Blogging about online marketing has provided Laura an outlet to share much of
what she has learned through her years in the online tourism and television markets.
Her online marketing journey began in 2005, when she was an internet marketing director for her local tourism bureau - when social media was emerging.
She also worked in internet sales/marketing for a top NBC station in South Carolina, whose website drew more than 500,000 visitors a month.

In 2010, Laura signed up for Kelly Rae Roberts “Flying Lessons” e-course.
She immersed herself into artistic pursuits away from the computer and shares her progress with her readers at LauraCatherine.co

Laura enjoys art journaling, painting, tweeting, making jewelry,
traveling and (of course) blogging. She has been known to hold a craft tweet-up
and loves handmade items.

How did you finally decide on the look of your brand? What did the evolution look like?

My marketing blog, business websitepersonal blogFacebook page and Twitter account all have a unified look.  This was a definite process for me, even though I’m
a designer! I decided on red, white and black as my business colors. I didn’t want anything too girly, and felt black and white were crisp and professional enough to
make both men and women feel comfortable on my blog.

When I first started my blogging and business, I went with a navy and light blue color scheme, and more girly fonts. Over time, I felt like I wanted something that felt
more like “me.”

Especially with us creative folks, we have a tendency to redesign our online spaces and logos more often than others. Even though it’s been less than a year, I’m already ready to change things up! I have to remember (as a marketer) that branding myself is a process, and that is isn’t always the best decision to change things just when people have come to recognize and know me by the colors and look I’ve established.

I have also learned to not be so hard on myself. Even artists with huge followings often have their blogs on a simple blogspot site, with pretty customizations. As long as the content is high quality and it’s written from the heart, I have to believe readers won’t
know or even care about where the blog is hosted. Another one of my favorites is
A Beautiful Mess” blog – another example of a simple blog platform customized
in a way that is allows the artist to shine.
